You can tell lots of things about India but the first thing a new visitor notice is the crowd of people. India today has a population above 1 billion, the second largest in the world, or 16% of the total population of the world. Every year the population increase by 15 million people. Of all the new born children estimated 50,000 will be abandoned every year and many of them will have a miserable life. There are street children, child prostitution, child labor and hungry children; Bharat-Aid has an aim to help them. To help them to get a better life.

Bharat means India in Hindi, one of the Indian official languages. Bharat India-Aid was established in 1981 and is recognized and controlled by the government as a charity organization. We are a non profit making organization and politically and religious independent.

Our aims are :

# To help abandoned and poor children and youth
# That the help should make them independent and that
   the help should develop the society.
# To increase understanding among the rich for the undeveloped
   countries and for the needy children
# To increase interest for solidarity for the third world
# To raise interest for India, it's people and culture

Bharat India-Aid is working in 3 fields :

* sponsor a child program
* development program
* information program

President Speaks

Dear Readers,

In a world where 2/3 of the population is living under poverty and difficulties it is very easy to shut ones eyes for the facts. We, who have been the fortunate to be born in "the rich mans world", it's only the rich who have access to the new information technology and internet, should all take our responsibility to help a brother or sister who are less fortunate.

In India, with the second largest population in the world, we can see that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening. Bharat India-Aid since 20 years is working for uplifting quality of life of the orphan children. You can also give a helping hand to a child by becoming a sponsor or just give a contribution to our work.

Thank you,

Claes-Åke Carlsson, President.
